| WORK EXPERIENCE:
1977-2006 Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office
Road patrol, Crime Prevention, Special Assignments, Criminal Investigations,
Public Information Officer and Deputy District Commander, Patrol
District.
Created special Domestic Violence Unit, leading to 80% reduction
in domestic violence homicides in Hillsborough County. Received
Governor’s “Peace At Home “ award from Governor
Lawton Chiles. Received accolades from Attorney General and the
Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Instructed domestic and sexual
violence seminars for University of South Florida, Florida State
University, Department of Justice, Republic of Kazakhstan, Florida
Internationl University and many more.
Rod spent seven years in the Criminal Investigation Division. He
supervised sections which dealt with crimes against persons, aggravated
assaults, stalking, aggravated batteries, harassing phone calls,
kidnapping, false imprisonment, crimes against the elderly and more.
Rod is recognized nationally as an expert in the field of domestic
and sexual violence.
He was on the board of directors for The Spring of Tampa Bay ( domestic
violence shelter) for twelve years. He is currently on the board
of directors for the Family Justice Center.
He has shared his expertise and opinion on NBC’s Today Show,
The O’Reilly Factor, MSNBC News, Court TV, Inside Edition,
America’s Most Wanted and the Kathy Fountain Show in the areas
of domestic violence, police misconduct and crime prevention.
Education: Graduate of Hillsborough Community College (AA), University
of South Florida (BA) and was an honors graduate of the Southern
Police Institute, Administrative Officer’s Course, University
of Louisville.
TRAINING EXPERIENCE:
Rod has received over 2,500 hours of certified training in a wide
variety of subjects. He
is considered a domestic violence expert and a Crime Prevention
Practitioner. Rod has many hours experience in police misconduct.
As a long time supervisor, Rod had to investigate many allegations
of police misconduct.
Rod is considered a national expert on the field of domestic violence.
He has lectured nationally and in Kazakhstan, Korea and Germany
to thousands of attendees at his seminars for the past twelve years.
Rod is also a trainer in Crime Prevention Through Environmental
Design ( CPTED).
The basis of CPTED is to use the natural design and landscaping
to alleviate crime on properties, private and public.
Rod is also co-owner and founder of the National Institute of Crime
Prevention. This company travels world wide to instruct on domestic
and sexual violence and crime prevention. It has hundreds of clients
and has trained thousands in the past eight years.
